BOUT#5: TRENTON WATSON (DEBUT) VS BRUCE MARTIN (0-3) AM. 135LBS
RD#1: These guys accepted this fight on about three days’ notice but both look to be in great shape at the start of this bout. Martin the longer fighter tries to establish his jab early but then over throws on a right hand and ends up in a deep double leg with Watson slamming him to the canvas and taking side control instantly. Martin tries to stay busy from the bottom as he works to pass back to the half guard but Watson is showing impressive control as he lands multiple elbows. The action slows and Johnson stands them up which proves to help Martin greatly as he lands to round house kicks to the body of Watson that seem to hurt him. Martin gets greedy though and falls into another double leg takedown from Watson. This time Watson is busy right from the start and lands some great ground and pound that has the third man in the cage take a close look but Martin survives the round.
RD#2: Martin controls the pace and the distance effectively at the start of the first but he makes the same mistake as he closes the distance and misses on an uppercut that allows Watson to score yet another takedown. Martin has the advantage on the feet at distance but insists on going to the inside where he is taken down easily. Watson lands about 20 shots in a row with Martin unable to respond forcing referee Johnson to call a stop to the fight due to ground and pound in the second round.
