Miguel Cotto:

“I tried to do my best, and I think I did that tonight. I am happy with my performance. He’s a tough fighter, and was a tough opponent. It was during round 5 or 6 that I knew he was going to make it to the 12 rounds. Come December 31st, I will retire, I’ve did it and done it all. I’m 36 going on 37, and I think I’ve come to the end of my career. I will fight once more in December. I’ll let Freddie tell you who I want.”

Freddie Roach:

“We want the winner of Canelo-GGG”

Yoshihiro Kamegai:

“I felt so much frustration not being able to land any of my punches. I could not catch him at all. I couldn’t catch him at all. He is such a talented legend, I am so glad I got the opportunity to fight him.”

ANDRE WARD VS. SERGEY KOVALEV 2  INTERNATIONAL MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL

Part 2

Team Ward

On the call: Virgil Hunter , Josh Dubin, and Andre Ward

The Rematch, always the most anticipated match in combat sports. The drama between fight one and two feeds the media and fan frenzy. Accusations, excuses,  and rumors go back and forth.  Tactics or truth, every one claims to know. But the one thing you always know, there’s is a pissed off camp and a happy camp.

Today was the “winning” camps’ turn on the international media call. A complete difference from the previous call with Sergey Kovalev and team. Team Ward more light hearted than Team Kovalev who was looking to: “punish.. (Ward)”. The confident teams’ only answer to any question of any new tricks was: “Oh boy you’ll see”, -Virgil Hunter

The post fight talk about the score card from Team Ward about their previous match  was seeing it winning by 2 rounds. But then again, like Virgil noted,

“When it comes to your fighter, you’re only going to see what they are doing. Not whats really going on.”

So I guess that pertains to both corners, fans and media? Do we only see what we want to see? Can we ever separate ourselves from the emotion of the fight and look at it in a scientific way? If not, I guess we can’t call it the sweet Science, just Sweet, sweet drama! But I digress …

What one statement was said by Team Ward that this rematch:

“This will be a statement fight.” -Hunter

There wasn’t any mud slinging on this call, Ward stayed positive and even giving Kovalev respect.

“Once a champion always a champion.” -Ward

Some important notes from Ward as a take away speaks to every one.

“I am a Pro Fighter we are not just commodities.”

Ward carries on to talk about after the fight, all of the fights. Once the fans stop cheering. What is the fighter left with? Ward asks to humanize the fighter:

“What are you left with after your career is over. When the fans stop cheering. We need to humanize the fighter.”-Ward
