Miguel Cotto:

“I tried to do my best, and I think I did that tonight. I am happy with my performance. He’s a tough fighter, and was a tough opponent. It was during round 5 or 6 that I knew he was going to make it to the 12 rounds. Come December 31st, I will retire, I’ve did it and done it all. I’m 36 going on 37, and I think I’ve come to the end of my career. I will fight once more in December. I’ll let Freddie tell you who I want.”

Freddie Roach:

“We want the winner of Canelo-GGG”

Yoshihiro Kamegai:

“I felt so much frustration not being able to land any of my punches. I could not catch him at all. I couldn’t catch him at all. He is such a talented legend, I am so glad I got the opportunity to fight him.”

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 15, 2017) Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs), the only boxer from Puerto Rico to earn five world titles in four weight divisions, will look to capture his sixth world title when he takes on Yoshihiro “El Maestrito” Kamegai (27-3-2, 24 KOs) for the WBO Junior Middleweight title. Cotto will make his triumphant return to the ring after a layoff of nearly two years and will appear on HBO for an astounding 23rd time. The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 26 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing® beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT. The future Hall of Famer spoke about the importance of his extensive career, his partnership with Golden Boy Promotions, and his father in developing his family-first outlook.

Here is what Miguel Cotto had to say in an exclusive Q&A Session:

“I have proved my whole career that I have been ready for anyone. I am a good boxer and I have no doubt that I can match anyone. As I look at my career, I have no regrets, everything has worked out and I am proud of the legacy I have built. I think one of the more satisfying fights I’ve been in was my victory against Antonio Margarito — I got my revenge against him then.”

“In my time off, I feel like I’ve become a more mature, more focused, complete fighter. Our partnership with Golden Boy Promotions is part of that — Oscar De La Hoya and his company have always been there to support me and my team, and I am glad I get to share the last leg of my career with them in the best way possible. We have already seen the positives of working with them, and we are excited for the partnership we have developed that goes beyond this fight.”

“I became the man I am today because of my father. He taught me the way you have to be, to put your family first in your life. I have no doubt that my father, mother and whole family are proud of me. The discipline that my family has taught me is the same that I want to show my kids, that they too can achieve their goals and dreams just as I have. I think above being a great boxer, I take a bigger pride in being a great father.”

“Kamegai is the best opponent for me right now in my career — he is a warrior in the ring. When we were looking through our options, he was one of the first names that popped up. I don’t really worry about what or how my opponent trains – all that matters is how well our team prepares. Freddie Roach has always been good to me, has been critical to my preparation over the years, and our team has always enjoyed working together like a family. I will be prepared for Kamegai on August 26 mentally and physically. It will be a great fight.”

Cotto vs. Kamegai, a 12-round fight for the vacant WBO World Junior Middleweight Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Miguel Cotto Promotions in association with Teiken Promotions and sponsored by Tecate “BORN BOLD,” Casa Mexico Tequila and Fred Loya Insurance. Rey Vargas vs. Ronny Rios is a 12-round world championship fight for the WBC Super Bantamweight Title, and is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Promociones del Pueblo. Ward Kovalev “The Rematch”

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 18, 2017) – Andre Ward vs. Sergey Kovalev 2: “The Rematch” took place on Saturday, June 17 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The championship event, presented by Corona Extra, was produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View®.

Below you can find all of the fight results and fighter quotes:

Sergey Kovalev (30-2-1, 26 KOs) vs. Andre Ward (32-0, 16 KOs)

RESULT: Andre Ward by TKO 2 at 2:29 of the Eighth Round

Andre Ward: “I’m ecstatic, I’m happy. I didn’t predict a knockout, but I said it could happen. I’ve been boxing a long time and, sometimes, a lot of writers and reporters they don’t take you at your word. If you look at my career and the way I’ve gone about things, I’m pretty matter of fact. I’m pretty straightforward. I don’t say anything unless I mean it. I have a lot of respect for Kovalev. He is a world champion. He’s been on top for a long time. He’s a great fighter; there’s not a lot of people that elite. I’m not going to throw him under the bus even though they did a lot of different things. But I knew the temperament that I was fighting. I don’t want to call him a frontrunner, but if he’s not having his way, he’s got to dig deep. I don’t know if he had the right answers tonight. Obviously, he didn’t because the fight got stopped.

“I was breathing, he was breathing, but I’m used to working tired. I’m comfortable being uncomfortable; that’s how we work, that’s how we train. When I saw him put his arms on the ropes in between the rounds – I watch all that stuff – that’s trouble for him. I just needed to keep being smart.

“I think it was plain to see that I broke him mentally and physically. I’m not a person that demands respect or none of that. You don’t have to respect me and I don’t demand anything, but at a certain point and time, you got to give a person their just do. I’m 13 years in and I’ve been doing it against the best.

“What’s next? Cruiserweight? Heavyweight? I dream big. Anything is possible when you have God.

“If there are questions marks after this, that has nothing to do with me. I’m going to enjoy my family, kiss my wife and we out.

Virgil Hunter: “I told them (the media) that I only trained Andre for the knockout twice. The first was Chad Dawson. And the second was for tonight. And they laughed at me. But I knew what was going to happen because he (Ward) was healthy. Now we quieted all those who were whining and thought we didn’t take it the first time.”

Sergey Kovalev: “He hit with four low blows. The ref didn’t call them. I felt I could have continued. This is bullshit.”

WARD

I knew this was going to be different – he fought a good fight the first time but when I went back and looked at it I computed it and tonight I came out all right
1st time around man is world champ he’s been on top a long time I give him credit he is a great fighter and when u fight great fighters you have to raise your game.
Ifelt like I was up but I don’t know by how many
I saw him reacting to body shots that were borderline so i knew I had him
I knew he was hut trying to cover up.   (watching) hat’s what started it – right there with ethe right hand
I went back to the body.  I went right back there again and he wasn’t reacting then the referee stopped the fight.
(IS P4P important to you?)
Of course it is but I don’t have a vote.  When I beat a great fighter like Kovalev hopefully I will get the vote now
He is a good fighter and I give nothing but respect to him
Maybe cruiserweight.  I don’t know.  I always wanted to fight heavyweight but it has to be the right guy.
KOVALEV
I don’t know I can’t explain it.
Not every round but I thought I was doing very good
I was better nd he was better this fight.  I didn’t feel like I was getting knocked down by the power of his punches.
(watching)
Low blow.  Again.  Another one.
One shot was on the border.
I could have continued.  I didn’t feel he could throw the punch that would end the fight.
This is fighting we are boxers yes he did punch me but he didn’t hurt me.  The fight should have continued.
I would like it very much to fight him again.

Post bell punches in the Co Main/Results/Quotes

Moises Flores (25-1, 17 KOs) vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux (18-0, 12 KOs)

RESULT: Guillermo Rigondeaux by TKO

Rigondeaux: “The Mexican was a brave kid. I commend him for getting in the ring with me. He has more guts than a lot of these other guys. We both threw combinations at the same time at the end of the first round. But mine was quicker and more accurate. It was only a matter of time. I fight to give the best performance to the public and all the fans. I am making everyone disappear at 122. I am always available. Tell me who is next. I want all of them, and will take them out one by one. I hope the whole world sees what it is like to get in the ring with me. I am tired of the press and everyone saying I am boring. You see what happens when someone brings the fight to me.”

Flores: “It’s not fair. It’s clear that the bell rang. He didn’t throw a punch the whole round. I was winning the round and he waited for after the bell to throw punch when I dropped my hands down.”

Undefeated World Junior Welterweight Champion and top pound for pound fighter TERENCE “Bud” CRAWFORD (30-0, 21 KOs), of Omaha, Neb., will make his 2017 debut, This Saturday! May 20, at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. This will also be his debut headlining in the big room — a testament both to his talent and his growing popularity. Crawford will be defending his unified World Boxing Organization (WBO) / World Boxing Council (WBC) / Ring magazine titles against former Olympic gold medalist and top-rated contender FÉLIX DÍAZ (19-1, 9 KOs), of Brooklyn by way of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in a marquee all-action fight. It will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing®, beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Terence Crawford 139.2 vs. Felix Diaz 139.4
Ray Beltran 134.6 vs. Jonathan Maicelo 134.8

Crawford: It’s going to be a fun night. I’m really excited for this fight. I’ve been reading all of the blogs people have been sending me for the last couple of days, telling me that this guy said I’m scared of him and I’m ducking him. And everybody knows Terence Crawford doesn’t duck anybody. I’m real excited and happy that he got the chance to get the fight. I’m not running boy, I’m not running! So we’re here now and that’s everything I have to say. May 20th, let the better man win!

Diaz: On the 20th it’s going to be an incredible opportunity for me. When I was arguing with my managers about finding the biggest fights out there, Crawford was number one since he is the best out there and it’s such an amazing opportunity to finally get that fight with him.

No Excuses, Kovalev Ward 2

Kovalev Ward set for June 17th, at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas will be a highly anticipated rematch. After their last meet up in the ring on Nov 19th, 2016 the tensions have grown between the two.

Post fight quotes from “Pound for Pound”

SERGEY KOVALEV (30-1-1, 26 KOs)

“It’s the wrong decision. I don’t want to say my opinion,” he said. “The witnesses are here. They saw it. It’s my job. It was a fight of my life. I am disappointed in the judges’ decision.”

“[Ward] got maybe a few rounds. I agree with that. I kept control. I lost maybe three rounds the whole fight. It is the USA and all the judges were from the USA. It’s a sport. Don’t make it politics. It’s a sport, and I won the fight.”

ANDRE WARD (31-0, 15 KOs)

“What a beautiful thing! We did it baby! It’s a lot of hardware. Surreal! This is what I set out to do. Now I’m a 5X World Champion in 2 weight classes. Man, it’s amazing!

“I thought I won and it sounded like fair scoring.

“Your last fight is always the most important. But I needed this.

“It was about those in the trenches moments. Sergey has no inside game. So my mid-range and inside game is what I focused on.

“After that second round knockdown, I think he (Kovalev) realized I wasn’t going anywhere and I was stepping on the gas.

In the past months each fighter has been open in their thought’s for one another. Both not holding back via social media, and in the press.

SERGEY KOVALEV

“I just saw him in the lobby of the hotel yesterday for the first time,” Kovalev said. “It’s real hard. When he looks at me, I just want to punch him in the head. I have nothing to talk to him about.

“He does not deserve respect from me. I want to punch him and punish him. I want to destroy him.”

ANDRE WARD

“I could throw a lot against the wall and see if it sticks, but I have a track record. This isn’t my first rodeo,” Ward said. “I’m not getting caught up in that. You’ve got to see me June 17. Let’s simplify. You’ve got to see me June 17. And like I told him, leave the excuses at home this time.”

“Contrary to anything that is out there, there is nothing scary about him,” Ward said.

With all of these words being said, it always adds up for a win for the fans. On November 19th 2016 there was “questionable scoring”, said by many in attendance and there after in social media. This just adding to the fire, to create a highly combustible match in the ring.

Will Kovalev get that needed KO? I only hope so, because we all win when it goes to #KovalevWard3 right?
